Traffic planning rolls in as Holiday rush begins

Christmas is coming! And it’s beginning to create more traffic around the metro.

As the holiday rush starts, the government agencies responsible for traffic management are preparing to lessen the growing traffic problems that are very common during Christmas.

The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) and the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) are now planning on ways of alleviating traffic including clearing the Mabuhay/Christmas lanes in order to provide secondary routes for motorists.

Both agencies are now working on the legal basis for towing vehicles in case such action is needed during holidays.  This procedure will help make traffic lanes free of obstruction during the yuletide season.

In pursuant to this preparation, Cabinet Secretary Jose Rene D. Almendras has also pointed out the need to finalize all legal procedures to ensure a manageable traffic flow in December.  According to him, the government is going to start clearing some roads in Metro Manila, excluding EDSA.

As for EDSA, further changes will be enforced to ensure better traffic flow including the installation of lane separators to keep buses and vehicles in their respective lanes.

Additional assistance is also being requested from Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory (LTFRB). Jeepney drivers should be aware that the government is also planning to create a rerouting as LTFRB is requested to review certain jeepney routes to prevent congestion in these secondary lanes.

Expect for Official announcements from the HPG and MMDA regarding preparations for Christmas.
