MMDA Advisory: Expect heavy traffic on Nov. 28, Nov. 30, Dec. 19 & Dec. 23


Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino identified the dates Nov. 28 (Friday), Nov. 30 (Sunday), Dec. 19 (Friday) and Dec. 23 (Tuesday) as the four dates during Christmas season when heavy traffic and congestions are expected near the shopping malls in the metropolis.

”The heaviest concentration of people at the shopping mall would be on Nov. 28 because that ‘s payday and some get their 13th month pay; the next most numerous for people historically, would be on Nov. 30 when those who got their bonuses come to the mall together with their families. Then next on Dec. 19, which is the Friday before Christmas and lastly the two days before Christmas or Dec. 23 when many are on last-minute shopping,” said Tolentino.

Tolentino advised shoppers to do their Christmas shopping as early as possible, and to visit the malls nearest to their place to avoid being stuck in traffic jams.

Earlier, the MMDA and mall operators, especially those located along EDSA agreed to extend their operating hours from the usual 10 am opening and 9 pm to 10 pm closing to 11 am opening and 11 pm closing from Nov. 28 up to Jan. 3, 2015.

MMDA will deploy 10 MMDA traffic enforcers along with two members from Task Force “Phantom” on Nov. 28 to assist the malls’ security personnel in directing the traffic near them vicinities.

Task force “Phantom” composed of 15 traffic constables from MMDA and 15 members of the Philippine National Police’s Highway Patrol Group
